What we look after in a hotel

Gas safety in a hotel

A hotel has two sets of rules in one building. The gas appliances and flues that serve guest rooms and staff accommodation need a yearly check with a written record under regulation 36 of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. The kitchen and the other working areas come under regulation 35, the employer's duty to keep gas safe. The detail is in our guide to hotel gas safety, and the checks and prices on our commercial gas safety page.

Around the guests

Breakdowns are taken 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and the office gives an arrival window when you call. Planned work that needs the water or gas off is booked at the quietest time for the hotel.

What a hotel call out costs

A hotel is charged as a business: from £150 + VAT, first hour on a weekday between 8am and 5pm, and from £300 + VAT, first hour out of hours (evenings, nights and weekends), then in half hours. Planned and larger work is quoted in writing before it starts. All + VAT, with every rate on the price page.

What hotels ask us

Which gas safety rules apply to a hotel?

Two sets. HSE says the landlord rules in regulation 36 of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 apply to hotels and staff accommodation, so the gas appliances and flues serving guest rooms need a yearly check with a written record. The kitchen and other working areas come under regulation 35, the duty on every employer to keep gas safe.

Do you do the gas safety check in the hotel kitchen?

Yes. The commercial catering gas safety check, recorded on a CP42, is done by our directors, who hold the commercial catering gas qualifications.

The hot water has gone for the guests. Can you come at night?

Yes. Breakdowns are taken 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are based in Camden, and the office gives an arrival window for the hotel's address when you call.

Can planned work avoid disturbing guests?

Work that needs the water or gas off can be booked at the quietest time for the hotel, and the office agrees it with you first.
