Gas safety at business premises
At a workplace, regulation 35 of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 makes the employer, or the self employed person in control, keep the gas appliances, pipework and flues safe. No law sets a yearly gas certificate for a workplace in the way it does for a rented home.
HSE asks employers to have gas appliances maintained by a competent person, following the maker's instructions, and says gas work in places such as shops, restaurants, schools and hospitals must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Where people live on site, such as hotel guest rooms or a staff flat, regulation 36 adds the yearly landlord check, and its record, for the gas serving those rooms. Commercial kitchens have a check of their own, recorded on a CP42: see Commercial Catering.
At a business, a gas safety check and record is from £110 + VAT, per appliance.

If you can smell gas
Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999first. It is free, 24 hours a day. Open doors and windows, turn off gas appliances, and turn the gas off at the meter unless the meter is in a cellar. Do not use electrical switches, and do not smoke or light a flame. The emergency engineer makes the gas safe.
A fault in an appliance or the pipework after the meter is then a Gas Safe engineer's job. We trace the fault, repair it, test the pipework and reinstate the supply once it is safe. This runs on the same 24 hour rota as ouremergency plumberservice. We are based in Camden, and the office gives you an arrival window for your address when you call.
The record behind the work
A real job, and the review it earned
A boiler serviced every year, and the leaks in between
A customer who has had us back annually for the boiler service, and has also called us out for emergency leak work between visits. Booking is handled by the office and the paperwork follows promptly each time.
Reviews you can check
Rated 4.95 out of 5 on TrustATrader, and 9.95 out of 10 on Checkatrade from reviews left for CJ Plumbing & Heating, one of the two businesses that merged to form Neos. Every review is on a platform we cannot edit, and the links go straight to the originals.
Stars are drawn from each platform’s real score and never rounded up. The average is weighted by how many reviews each platform holds, and uses the lower of the two TrustATrader scores.

Gas work, answered
Do you work on commercial kitchen gas appliances?
Yes. Our directors hold the Commercial Catering gas qualifications and do the gas work and CP42 gas safety checks in restaurant, café, pub and hotel kitchens.
Do you work on gas pipework?
Yes. We repair, alter and extend gas pipework after the meter, at businesses and homes.
Can you install or move a gas hob or cooker?
Yes. We fit, disconnect and relocate hobs and cookers, including any new pipework. A larger job, such as a new pipework run, gets a written quote before it is booked, and all work carries a 12 month guarantee.
Is a gas safety check only for landlords?
No. The CP12 is the annual check the law requires in rented property. Homeowners can book the same inspection too. We issue CP12s for single lets and whole portfolios.
Do your gas engineers work on boilers too?
Yes. Boiler repair, servicing and installation are done by the same Gas Safe registered engineers. We are Vaillant accredited installers, so new Vaillant boilers carry extended guarantees.
