A Bit About Unvented Cylinders.
As the name suggests, unvented cylinder systems are sealed from the atmosphere. The water in the cylinder is stored under relatively high pressure and this pressure is created by the inlet water supply; these types of systems do not generate or increase water pressure, they simply use the inlet pressure to supply the outlet.
Like traditional vented systems, the heat source can be electric immersion heaters, a boiler, some other heat source or any combination. Unvented systems can supply high pressure hot and cold water to all outlets, and the increased pressures make for better quality showers, without the need for pumps or booster sets. As both hot and cold services are fed directly from the mains supply, there is no requirement for a cold water storage tank.

We advise you that continued servicing of your cylinder every 12 months is recommended, and that in most instances it will be a condition of the manufacturers' warranty that an unvented cylinder is appropriately serviced, on a regular basis as advised by the manufacturer, by a competent Service Engineer or provider.
Unvented cylinders offer better pressure in the shower and at the taps. They also offer numerous other benefits over old, vented styles. However, because they are not vented, they must be installed and maintained by qualified, licensed engineers.
Unvented cylinders operate under extreme pressure and transport large volumes of hot water, meaning the risks posed by incorrect installation are significant... This is a precautionary measure taken to ensure the water pressure and temperature do not build to unsafe levels and cause an explosion.
